However, there has definitely been an increase in woodland camping, tree tents and tree houses. Our Pop-up woodland campsite is set in a beautiful rural location.  We offer a traditional camping experience with campfires and the provision some additional creature comforts. You will fully relax in this remote and wild setting and be at one with nature.  There is open level pitching and secret spaces with sunlight for sanctuary and bliss.

This East Sussex campsite is also ideal for self pitching with a broad selection of woodland pitching or open meadow camping, if you fancy a touch of hassle free camping hire one of our comfy Bell tents. Our tree tents provide suspended two floor living space, hidden within the woodland give a unique perspective of tree top living, ideal for a couple wanting a get away experience. 

Chill out spaces are dotted over the campsite in the shape of Hammocks, cargo nets and slack lines harness the inner child.

Get back to nature with off grid woodland camping and comfort. Our campsite is remote but we provide facilities. The toilets and lovely hot showers are in vintage horse box trailers. These bespoke huts on trailer units are placed where you need them the most.

For those of you that would like to also venture further than Sussex, there are many wild and semi-wild campsites of Scotland. Whether it’s a rugged coastline or wooded glen, you’re spoilt for choice in Scotland.

In accordance with the access rights established by the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, wild camping is broadly legal in Scotland such as certain areas of the The Isle of Mull, the largest of the islands of Argyll. Enjoy this haven for birds and wildlife with miles of coastline.  Lochbuie Estate also has a site specifically for wild camping.

Experience the spectacular scenery of Cairngorms breathtaking National Park. This massive location is twice the size of the very popular Lake District. Explore the glens, rivers, lochs and mountains of the eastern Highlands of Scotland. There is a vast array of wildlife to be spotted in this picturesque setting. Walkers and runners can trace the classic trail of Lairig Ghru. Other adventorus activities include hoofing it across Esat Highland Way, exploring the Cairngorm Plateau, foraging by paddleboard and swimming at Loch Morlich Beach.

It is legal to wild camp for responsible campers. However, check for signs, be considerate and put safety first. Byelaws sometimes prohibit wild camping. For instance, a permit is required before pitching up around Loch Lomond and in the Trossachs.

Family friendly camping in Sussex

A babbling brook winds its way through the trees of the Pop-up woodland campsite. Children can play on the tree swings and find fish, frogs and newts in the stream. There is also den making equipment for any budding builders.

Our Pop-up campsites are suitable for families, groups, couples, and individuals.

Leave the site as you found it

Nestling close to Camber Sands and Rye at the Hop and Hare Farm, this outdoor space encompasses a brook, meadowland and woodland. Camber Sands is one of the region’s stand-out sandy beaches which features the purest and longest dune systems on the South Coast.

Outdoor activities and experiences bring families together and forge memories

Some of the family-friendly activities can be found in the close-by picturesque village of Herstmonceux in Hailsham. Its Observatory Science Centre and Castle are all located close to our Secret Campsite at Hop and Hare Farm ( approx half hour by car) The annual Medieval Festival takes place here during the August bank holiday weekend. The Science Centre is set in the beautiful countryside with a cafe and picnic area great for relaxing and refuelling after your excursions.

Outdoor activities lead to a greater connection with nature and encourage children to be more engaged

As adults, we frequently recall the joy of playing outdoors as our own happiest memories of childhood.  Play is central to children’s enjoyment and teaches critical life skills such as creativity, teamwork, problem-solving and resilience. Also, fresh air and exercise improves our health and well being. The river campsite offers water-based activities such as canoeing, paddleboards and kayaks for hire.
